Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
How to use for Minor Burns & Sunburn
- Spray Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care onto the affected areas.
- Allow to air dry naturally; do not rub the solution into the skin.
- Repeat 3-4 times daily until the burn has healed.
How to use for Serious Burns
- Remove any dead skin or other debris from the burned area. If the wound is serious and dead skin needs to be cut away, please see your doctor for sharp debridement.
- Thoroughly spray the affected area with Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care and allow to dry for 1 minute.
- Do not rub the solution into the skin.
*Note: if the burn has just happened, repeat steps 2 and 3 a few times to fast-track the reduction in inflammation. - Spray 5 mL* of Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care onto 3-5 sheets of clean, non-sterile woven gauze until the gauze is wet but not drenched.
- Press the wet gauze directly onto the wound, making sure it covers the entire wound bed, including the edges of the wound.Â
- Cover the gauze dressing with a crepe bandage or breathable (non-waterproof) dressing.
- Change the dressing every day or at least every other day, following steps 4, 5 and 6 with each dressing change.
*Each dressing of 3-5 layers of woven gauze needs 5 mL of product—this is 50 pumps (100 mL size bottle) or 10 pumps (450 mL size) per dressing. This ensures the right amount of product on the gauze for debridement and healing.Â
NOTES:
Why use gauze?
Woven gauze is an easy and effective way to debride wounds and burns. Wound discharge (exudate), necrotic tissue and biofilm will stick to the gauze, and be removed with each dressing change. This optimises healing and radically reduces inflammation. Ensure at least 3 to 5 sheets of woven gauze are used and all the layers have been wet with Trifectiv® Plus before applying to the wound bed.
Paraffin gauze:
If the wound starts to bleed after you have removed the gauze, then add a single layer of non-medicated paraffin gauze onto the wound before applying the wet gauze. ONLY do this if the wound is clean (ALL dead tissue, dead biofilm, foreign bodies) have already been removed through wet-to-moist debridement as per the above dressing steps. If dressing a burn on a child then a single layer of non-medicated paraffin gauze can be used between the wound and the gauze wet with Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care. This will minimise any pain during dressing changes.
How to use for Insect bites & other inflamed or infected skin conditions

- Once the skin is dry, spray the affected area with Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care and allow to air dry completely (please do not wipe or rub the solution into the skin).
- Once the product has dried, apply a barrier cream to the skin. Please do not use an ointment such as petroleum jelly.
- Repeat the above steps with every nappy change or at least once every 2 hours until the nappy rash is resolved.
How to use for Athlete's Foot
- Wash the feet with a sponge and warm water containing a little non-medicated bubble bath.

How to use with Stitches or Surgical Wounds
- Remove any surgical dressing the day after your surgery or as soon as possible.
- Put a single layer of non-medicated paraffin gauze over the stitches. Then wet 3-5 layers of clean, non-sterile woven gauze with 5 mL* of Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care and place this over the paraffin gauze.
- Hold in place with a breathable dressing.
- Change all dressings daily.
Once the stitches are removed continue to spray the wound with Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care and allow to dry naturally (don’t rub). Repeat the application twice a day. If necessary, cover with a breathable dressing.
If you don’t have stitches follow the directions for open wounds. Â
*Each dressing of 3-5 layers of woven gauze needs 5 mL of product—this is 50 pumps (100 mL size bottle) or 10 pumps (450 mL size) per dressing. This ensures there is enough product on the gauze for healing and debridement (the removal of dead tissue & biofilm).Â
How to use with a Diabetic or Venous Leg Ulcer
- In some cases, sharp or surgical debridement of visible dead tissue may be required before the first application of Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care, for optimal results. Please consult your doctor or a wound sister if you are unsure whether this is required.
- Wounds should be cleaned before the first dressing of Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care is applied. Do this by washing the wound with a sponge, warm water, and a little non-medicated bubble bath. Rinse well with clean water to remove all cleanser (do not wash with soap, peroxide, saltwater, or any other disinfectant). Pat the wound dry with a clean towel.
- Thoroughly spray the affected area and allow it to dry for 1 minute. Please do not rub the solution into the skin.
- Spray 5 mL* of Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care onto 3-5 sheets of clean, non-sterile woven gauze until the gauze is wet but not drenched.
- Press the wet gauze directly onto the wound, ensuring contact with the entire wound bed. If required, use forceps to make sure the gauze is in contact with every surface of the ulcer
- Cover the wet gauze dressing with a crêpe bandage or breathable plaster (do not use waterproof dressings). Repeat steps 4, 5 and 6 every day or alternative days.
- Clean the wound at least twice per week under running water for 2-3 minutes before applying a new dressing (this can be done in the shower or bath). Do not wash with soap, saltwater, peroxide or any other disinfectant.
If the area can be left open, spray Trifectiv® Plus Wound & Burn Care every 2-3 hours onto the wound and let it dry naturally. Patients should walk or exercise regularly, as much as they are able, to encourage healing.
*Each dressing of 3-5 layers of woven gauze uses 5 mL of product—this is equal to 50 pumps (100 mL size bottle) or 10 pumps (450 mL size) per dressing. This ensures optimal wetting of the gauze for debridement and healing.Â
NOTES:
Why use gauze?
Woven gauze is an easy and effective way to remove damaged tissue from the wound (debridement). Wound discharge (exudate), dead tissue and biofilm stick to the gauze and are easily removed from the wound with each dressing change. Removing damaged tissue optimises healing and radically reduces inflammation. Ensure at least 3 to 5 sheets of woven gauze are used and all the layers have been wet with Trifectiv® Plus before applying to the wound bed.
Paraffin gauze:
If the wound bleeds when you remove the gauze dressing, then put a single layer of non-medicated paraffin gauze onto the wound before applying the wet gauze dressing. ONLY use paraffin gauze if ALL necrotic material (dead tissue, dead biofilm, foreign bodies) has been removed through wet-to-moist debridement as per the above dressing instructions. The paraffin gauze will minimise pain during dressing changes.
Lower leg wounds:
In the case of lower leg wounds, always apply a compression stocking from the foot to the knee, over the bandage, to control inflammation. This must be worn 24/7.

I was diagnosed with shingles on the 19 Aug. My rash and itching started around the 14 August, and on the 19th it was swollen, inflamed and I noticed a few blisters forming. I immediately phoned to make a doctors appointment, and got confirmation that it is shingles on the 19 August. I immediately started using Trifectiv Plus Wound & Burn Care 2 x per day (morning and night). The morning of 21 August I felt the inflammation had almost disappeared and the blisters were scabs. I could even lay on the shingles side – which was previously too painful. I never expected these results – and I am sure that because the rash was sorted out so soon, I never damaged my nerve endings. Haven’t had a day of pain since 21 August. Can’t believe that it healed in 2 days. Thanks for this product – I am hooked for life!

After a nasty fall off my mountain bike, while on holiday in the Garden Route, the guys at The Bike shop in Plettenberg Bay suggested I visit the clinic at the nearby pharmacy for some treatment. The pharmacist immediately cleaned my roasties, which were all over my left shoulder, arm and leg, and applied Trifectiv Plus to the whole area. The relief was instant and I continued to use the Trifectiv for the next week or 2, during which my wounds healed really quickly and I was able to continue hiking, riding and swimming every day. Applying it with gauze at night also stopped the scabs from hardening and ruining the sheets. That was nearly 2 years ago and my family always has some Trifectiv on hand for any cuts, scrapes, itchy skin, sunburn and even to use as a skin-friendly sanitiser.

I fell outside my home, and after a few days the wound had become infected, and I visited my GP. He prescribed an antiseptic ointment for me. After two months the wound had not improved and it was suggested that I try Trifectiv Plus Wound & Burn Care spray. From the day I started using the spray, I could see a daily improvement in the wound. This is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone with a similar problem. Thank you to Trifectiv Plus.
